What do you know about Swiss National Day (Schweizer Bundesfeiertag) on August 1st?
The Swiss in Basel recognise the formation of the Swiss Confederacy (Schweizer Eidengessoscht) with fireworks and celebrations on the banks of the Rhine river starting in the evening of 31st July. The town gets busy with thousands of people eating food from the market stalls, having fun with their friends and neighbours, and looking for the best spots to watch the fireworks!
Even if you have little ones who can’t stay up to watch the fireworks, wandering around the stalls is a fun activity in the late afternoon and early evening.
Remember it is a public holiday tomorrow on August 1st, so everywhere will be closed including shops, offices and banks.
